In Kenya, more and more children are being orphaned as the result of the AIDS pandemic and should-be-preventable diseases like malaria and tuberculosis. Culturally, Kenyans do not adopt orphans. Therefore, orphanages are critical to the survival of these vulnerable children.
Peaceful Home for Children is a new orphanage project located in the Kianyaga area near Mt Kenya. It will be sustainably run.
LUA is providing support for Peaceful Home's construction and land purchase plans including building four orphan homes, a home for the project directors, and the purchase of additional land for more food production and animal husbandry. At least 40 orphans (at a time) will benefit.
